Where to Stay During Street League Skateboarding
For ultimate convenience during your visit for SLS Sydney, stay right in Sydney Olympic Park – the Ibis, Pullman and Novotel are all just a short walk away from Ken Rosewall Arena.
You’ll find more budget accommodation a little further west in Parramatta, along with a melting pot of sport, food and culture to explore. Book a night at Nesuto Paramatta Apartment Hotel if you want affordable self-contained studios and one- or two-bedroom apartments.
For a more luxurious overnighter, opt to base yourself in Penrith. Treat yourself to a night at the Pullman Sydney Penrith, a five-star hotel attached to local icon, the Penrith Panthers Precinct.
Where to Eat and What to Do While You’re Here
The ride shouldn’t stop after you leave the arena – Western Sydney is bursting with high-energy activities to check out pre- or post-comp.
Fly like a superhero with iFly indoor skydiving, hit the rapids at Penrith Whitewater Rafting Stadium, jetpack through the air over water with Jetpack Adventures, or swing through the trees on a zipline at Treetops Adventure Park. If you’re with mates, opt for a few laps around Sydney Motorsport Park with Eastern Creek Karting.
Come dinner time, come hungry – the area boasts delicious eats from all around the world, making Western Sydney one of Sydney’s top spots for a feed.
Just a short drive from Sydney Olympic Park, Strathfield is where those in the know go for Korean food. Burwood – Sydney’s second Chinatown – is teeming with street stalls selling everything from lamb skewers to fried flatbreads. Harris Park in Parramatta is the place to go to find Sydney’s Little India, and get stuck into street food, snacks and more.
The nightlife goes off too. Feeling bougie? Check out Nick and Nora’s – a rooftop bar with an impressive line-up of whiskey, Champagne and cigars. Beer lover? Be sure to check out Riverside Brewhouse or Rusty Penny.
Where to Skate in Western Sydney
If you’re hoping to get some board time in before Street League, be sure to check out the area’s most pumping parks.
Monster Skatepark in Sydney Olympic Park, has the only international-competition-sized ramp in Australia, and caters for skateboarders, scooters and BMX. Meadowbank Skatepark in Ryde also caters to the whole crew, with its Olympic-standard bowl, dual-spine flow bowl and a bunch of obstacles. Wangal Park in Croydon, Parramatta Skatepark and Carlingford Skatepark are also solid options in the surrounding suburbs.
Adventure in Western Sydney
The heart of Sydney’s thrill-seeking self is the west. Home to adventure parks, indoor skydiving, jetpacking, race car driving, parklands and everything in between, the western suburbs have your next adventure covered.
If you’re looking for a one-location-fits-all-adventures kind of spot, then check out Western Sydney Parklands. The massive 5,280-hectare space features more than 70km of tracks to run, bike or walk; playgrounds; BMX trails and more. Blacktown International Sportspark is the place to be for sports fanatics. Home to AFL, cricket, athletics, baseball and softball centres, plus a football park, this huge multi-sport facility and recreational area cements Blacktown as the sporting capital of Western Sydney.
After a day of action, Parramatta has all the answers for a delicious feed. Check out Harvey’s Hot Sandwiches for an American-style sandwich, Pho Pasteur for Vietnamese and Holy Basil for Thai. Harris Park, just one suburb over, is known as Sydney’s ‘Little India’ and is a great spot for Indian street food, snacks or an eat-til-you're-stuffed feast.
