Paris, France – July 29, 2024: The strength and quality of SLS competition were highlighted in the 2024 Olympic Street Skating Finals, where SLS skaters secured five medals. Japan’s Yuto Horigome achieved an impressive back-to-back Olympic gold in men's street skateboarding, scoring a nearly perfect 97.08 on his fifth and final trick to surpass Americans Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston. Horigome’s victory was particularly memorable, as it came in front of a charged-up Paris crowd, a stark contrast to the empty stands in Tokyo three years ago. Jagger Eaton, despite a brilliant showing and finishing just 0.1 points behind Horigome, secured the silver medal. Nyjah Huston took home the bronze, marking a significant improvement from his seventh-place finish in Tokyo.
In the women's competition, Liz Akama of Japan continued her remarkable ascent by winning silver and looks to carry that momentum into a busy second half of the 2024 SLS calendar, where she will no doubt be a crowd favorite at SLS Tokyo on November 24. Sixteen-year-old Brazilian Rayssa Leal, who needed a late run in the preliminary round to make it into the finals, also made a run late in the last round to medal again after taking silver in the Tokyo Games. Leal was the youngest Brazilian ever to participate in the Olympics when she won silver at 13 and amassed 6.6 million Instagram followers after that breakout performance.
Now, after Paris, all eyes return to the SLS calendar with major events coming up in Sydney, Australia (October 12-13), Tokyo, Japan (November 23), and the Super Crown World Championship in Sao Paulo (December 14-15).
