STREET LEAGUE SKATEBOARDING TEMPE

SLS returns to Tempe, highlighting Arizona’s skate culture, featuring local athletes Dashawn Jordan, Jagger Eaton, and Paige Heyn

Street League Skateboarding (SLS), the premier street skateboarding competition and global leader in professional skateboarding in partnership with presenting sponsor Skate - the largest online casino and sportsbook, will return to Arizona - home of the first SLS event in history - on Saturday, August 29 in Tempe at Mullett Arena.

The event will transform the venue into a celebration of Arizona skate culture, featuring globally recognized talent, community roots, and desert-inspired design, with a unique course and fan experience tailored for this skateboarding hub. The custom-designed course will honor the vibrant energy and multicultural tapestry that shaped Arizona skateboarding, reflecting local street spots, desert landscapes, a wild-west culture, and homegrown talent.

The carefully planned roster features skateboarding icon and Chandler, Arizona native Dashawn Jordan, whose influence extends across skateboarding, music, fashion, and community engagement, inspiring the next generation of Arizona skateboarding on a global stage. Known for his powerful style and crossover creativity, Jordan recently released his signature “Copperhead” Nike SB Dunk, inspired by Arizona Diamondbacks colors and native desert wildlife. The co-founder of Faces Skate Shop in Tempe is also a musician, singer, and producer.

Alongside Dashawn, Jagger Eaton, who developed his skills at his family’s Mesa-based training facility, Kids That Rip (KTR), before becoming one of the most recognized skateboarders in the world. Representing Team USA, Eaton earned bronze in street skateboarding at the Tokyo Olympics before capturing silver at the Paris Games, continuing to train and represent Arizona on the international stage.

Also featured is hometown standout Paige Heyn, the Tempe-born professional skateboarder and 2024 Paralympian who emerged as one of Team USA’s youngest competitors. Heyn grew up skating throughout the Phoenix-area KTR facilities alongside Eaton and finished sixth in women’s street skateboarding at the Paris Games, cementing herself as one of the sport’s brightest young stars.

The SLS Tempe Takeover marks a major milestone for the league, reintroducing one of skateboarding’s most influential cities to the global stage while spotlighting the athletes, culture, and community that continue to shape the sport's future. Local media will receive a first look at the Arizona-inspired takeover promotional video narrated by Dashawn Jordan and interview opportunities with local athletes, ahead of the August 29 event.

“Returning to Tempe after more than a decade is incredibly special for SLS because Arizona has always been one of the most influential skateboarding communities in the world,” said Tal Cooperman, CMO at Thrill Sports. “This isn’t just about bringing an event back. It’s about celebrating the culture, talent, creativity, and hometown pride that helped shape modern skateboarding. From Dashawn and Jagger to Paige and the next generation coming up behind them, Arizona continues to produce some of the most authentic athletes in skateboarding, and we wanted this takeover to feel like it could only happen in Tempe.”
