Street League Skateboarding Celebrates Its Arizona Roots with Sold-Out SLS Tempe Takeover

Tempe, Arizona, August 29, 2026 — Street League Skateboarding (SLS) returned to Arizona for Stop 4 of the 2026 Championship Tour, bringing a sold-out crowd to Mullett Arena for the SLS Tempe Takeover presented by Stake. The event marked a homecoming for SLS, returning to the state where the inaugural SLS event took place 16 years ago. In front of a sold out arena, the world’s best skateboarders delivered insane performances, feeding off the energy of the crowd as they celebrated the history, progression and future of street skateboarding.

The day kicked off with the Wildcard Jam, giving skaters an opportunity to earn a spot in the Men’s Final. Arizona native Lazer Crawford and Tyson Bowerbank rose to the occasion, securing the two wildcard spots and earning their places in the Men’s Final.

In the Women’s Final, Japan swept the podium. Yumeka Oda (JPN) secured her second SLS victory and her first Takeover win, sealing the title with a kickflip back 50. Miyu Ito (JPN) finished second after landing the highest-scoring trick of the day, while Olympic gold medalist, Coco Yoshizawa (JPN) completed the all-Japanese podium in third. With SLS heading to Tokyo in November, the Japanese women have set the scene for what promises to be another can’t-miss stop.

“I’m so happy, thank you so much,” Oda said. “Some of the obstacles were pretty big and it was a little scary, especially the 50 I was trying.”

The Men’s Final closed out the night with Braden Hoban (USA) taking the top spot. Hoban delivered the highest-scoring trick of the night, earning a 9.5 for his kickflip back noseblunt to secure the win. Filipe Mota (BRA) finished just 0.3 points behind in second, while Kairi Netsuke (JPN) rounded out the podium in third.

“This has been an insane event. I love you, Arizona,” Hoban said.

The SLS Tempe Takeover presented by Stake was a standout moment in the 2026 Championship Tour, with Mullett Arena packed from start to finish and the energy inside matching the level of competition on the course. Tempe delivered an event that showcased the evolution and growth of the SLS brand since its pioneering event hosted in Arizona back in 2010.  

The SLS season continues in Paris, France at the iconic Stade Roland-Garros on October 3, returning to the scene of the sold-out event in 2025.
